Primary Purposes

The primary purposes of the Friends of Smith & Bybee Lakes are (from our bylaws):

  1. To support the conservation, restoration and enhancement of the Smith and Bybee Wetlands Natural Area as a historical remnant of the Columbia River Estuary System.
  2. To support the permanent protection of Smith and Bybee Lakes in recognition that natural areas are a valuable resource in an urban environment.
  3. To support the preservation of habitat for native fish and wildlife in the lakes area.
  4. To support recreational activities that are passive in nature.  Examples include bird watching, fishing, canoeing and kayaking.

Nonprofit Organization

The Friends of Smith & Bybee Lakes is a community-based group that was founded in 1988.  We are a registered with the state of Oregon as a nonprofit corporation.  We are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your donations are tax-deductible.
